WESTMORELAND FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO EARLY MORNING STRUCTURE FIRE

WESTMORELAND, NY – At approximately 2:09 AM on March 30, 2025, the Westmoreland Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 6985 Route 5, near Norton Ave/Pryor Rd. Initial reports indicated a large fire visible through the woods, with flames through the roof and possible entrapment.
Upon arrival, crews confirmed a working structure fire and identified the correct address as 6999 Route 5. Due to the fire’s intensity, responders requested a full tanker box and a second alarm assignment.
During suppression efforts, the roof partially collapsed, creating additional hazards and requiring defensive operations in certain areas of the structure.

All occupants safely evacuated, and crews remained on scene for an extended period performing fire suppression and overhaul operations.
