UTICA, NY – A water main break at the intersection of Mohawk and Bleecker Streets early Friday morning caused significant flooding, forcing police to partially close the busy intersection.
Utica Police were called to the scene shortly before 6 a.m. after water began gushing from a broken main, flooding the roadway. Officers closed Bleecker Street from Mohawk Street to Third Avenue, as well as Mohawk Street from Bleecker Street to Jay Street. Despite the closures, the southeast corner of Mohawk Street remained accessible to traffic.
Crews from the Mohawk Valley Water Authority arrived at approximately 7 a.m. to shut off the damaged main. Repairs are currently underway, but the flooding and road closures are expected to impact several nearby businesses.
