UPDATE: Rome Man Charged in Westmoreland Hit-and-Run

WESTMORELAND, N.Y. – The driver involved in a hit-and-run accident on Route 233 last month has turned himself in to authorities, according to New York State Police.

Sebastian Domenico Jr., 62, of Rome, voluntarily surrendered to State Police and was issued multiple traffic tickets, including:

  • Operating a Motor Vehicle without an Inspection Certificate

  • Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident

  • Moving from Lane Unsafely

  • Driving on the Shoulder of a Controlled Access Highway

Original Story:

On February 27, 2025, at approximately 4:53 p.m., State Police responded to a hit-and-run crash on Route 233 in Westmoreland.

Investigators say a white 2008 Toyota Tundra was traveling southbound when it attempted to pass a vehicle preparing to turn right into the post office parking lot.

The pickup truck passed on the west shoulder, striking the vehicle and causing damage to the passenger-side quarter panel and headlight.

Following the collision, the driver—described at the time as a middle-aged white male—briefly pulled into the Westmo Car Wash parking lot to inspect the damage. The vehicle had no front license plate, and the rear plate was obscured by dirt. The truck also featured a red tailgate with “MAGA” written in white lettering.

Instead of contacting the victim, the driver left the scene and continued southbound on Route 233.

Authorities identified Domenico as the driver after an investigation and urged anyone with further information to contact New York State Police at Troop D Headquarters at (315) 366-6000, referencing case #NY2500166577.
