Two-Vehicle Crash in Westmoreland: One Deceased, Another Hospitalized

WESTMORELAND, NY – Oneida County Sheriff Deputies responded to a fatal two-car motor vehicle accident on Stone Road near Peckville Road in the Town of Westmoreland on Saturday afternoon at approximately 3:45 PM.
The tragic incident occurred when Sasha Hulett, 33, of Westmoreland, was driving a 2011 Ford Escape eastbound and crossed over the double solid yellow line, colliding head-on with a 2022 Western Star 4900SF tractor-trailer. The truck, which was towing an empty car trailer, was driven by Juan Smith, 61, of Maryland.
Hulett was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Smith sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wynn Hospital by COCVAC Ambulance for further evaluation.
The Oneida County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation, led by the Criminal Investigation Unit and the Identification Unit. The Westmoreland Fire Department, New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit, and COCVAC Ambulance assisted at the scene.
