Two Juveniles Arrested in Burglary Spree



 

PORT LEYDEN, N.Y. – A joint investigation by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) at SP Lowville and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office has led to the arrest of two juveniles, ages 13 and 15, in connection with a series of burglaries in the Port Leyden and Lyons Falls areas. The crimes, which took place between March 17 and March 19, included the theft of two handguns and a motor vehicle.


Charges Filed 


Both juveniles face multiple charges, including:


• Three counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree, a class E felony


 • Seven counts of petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor


 • Two counts of burglary in the third degree, a class D felony


 • Two counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a class E felony


 • One count of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor


According to investigators, the juveniles targeted multiple unlocked vehicles during late night and early morning hours, stealing various items while the vehicles were parked at residential properties. Additionally, they broke into several storage units at Shue Box Storage on State Route 12 in Port Leyden, taking additional stolen property.



One of the most serious incidents involved the theft of a vehicle from a residence in Port Leyden. The stolen vehicle was later involved in a rollover crash on State Route 12 in Martinsburg. The two teens fled the scene before state troopers arrived.



Following the investigation, both juveniles were issued appearance tickets for family court.
