Two-Car Accident in Clay Leaves Two Dead

UPDATE: An investigation revealed that a 2014 Ford Mustang, traveling northbound on County Route 57, ran a red light at the intersection and collided with a 2016 Ford Escape, which was traveling westbound on State Route 31.



The Mustang’s driver, Michael E. Paetow, 72, of Liverpool, NY, was transported to Upstate University Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.



Shaylee A. Allen, 26, of Tully, NY, who was driving the Ford Escape, along with backseat passenger, 11-month-old Roxanne Rizzo, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. However, front seat passenger Dawn M. Brown, 58, of Syracuse, NY, was also transported to Upstate University Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.


 

CLAY, NY – On Sunday, October 13, 2024, at approximately 11:15 a.m., a two-car accident at the intersection of State Route 31 and County Route 57 (Oswego Road) in the town of Clay resulted in the loss of two lives.



State Police from North Syracuse responded to the scene and have confirmed that two individuals have perished as a result of the collision. The names of the victims have not been released pending notification of next of kin.



The cause of the accident is still under investigation. State Police remain on scene, conducting a thorough reconstruction of the crash and interviewing witnesses. Authorities are asking residents and motorists to avoid the area while the investigation continues. The road closure is expected to last three to four hours.



State Police are also urging anyone who was in the vicinity of the accident at the time and may have witnessed the incident to come forward with any information. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the State Police at 315-366-6000.
