Tragic Accident Claims the Life of Five-Year-Old

Croghan, NY – A five-year-old boy from Carthage, NY, tragically lost his life in an accident on January 26, 2025. At approximately 1:35 p.m., State Police responded to a call on Second Road in the town of Croghan for an unconscious child.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered Silas J. Moser, age 5, trapped under a hay bale inside a barn. Emergency life-saving measures were performed by members of the Beaver Falls Ambulance.

Moser was rushed to Lewis County Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the hay bale fell on top of Moser, pinning him beneath it. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the official cause of death.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking accident.
