State Police Investigating Death of Barneveld Man Following Incident

Barneveld, N.Y. – New York State Police are investigating the death of a Barneveld man following an incident on March 24, 2025.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., State Troopers responded to a 911 call regarding an individual behaving erratically at a residence on Sand Ridge Road. Upon arrival, they encountered Matthew A. Brown, 30, of Barneveld.
During the interaction, Brown reportedly lunged for a Trooper’s holstered firearm. Troopers were able to quickly restrain and handcuff him without further incident. While awaiting emergency medical personnel for an evaluation, Brown became unresponsive.
Troopers, along with a Deputy from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and EMS personnel, immediately initiated lifesaving measures. However, despite their efforts, Brown was pronounced deceased.
In accordance with Executive Law Section 70-b, the New York State Attorney General’s Office has been notified of the death.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details are available at this time.
