Stabbing Incident Reported at Utica Emergency Shelter

 

UPDATE: Joseph Fields, 56, of Utica, faces multiple charges following a violent incident in which he allegedly stabbed a victim in the wrist. Fields has been charged with Assault in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree.



According to authorities, Fields reportedly grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim, inflicting a severe injury that penetrated entirely through the wrist causing wounds on both sides of the victim arm.


 

UTICA, NY – Late Tuesday night, at approximately 11:52 p.m., Utica Police and Fire Rescue personnel responded to a reported stabbing at an emergency shelter operated by the Rescue Mission, located at 203 Rutger Street.



According to officials, a Rescue Mission staff member contacted 911 to report an altercation between two individuals, during which one person was assaulted with a knife. While on the line with dispatch, the staff member managed to secure the knife used in the incident, ensuring it remained in their possession until officers arrived on the scene.



The victim, who sustained a stab wound to his left hand, was treated for injuries that were assessed as non-life-threatening.



No further details about the individuals involved or the circumstances leading to the altercation have been released at this time.
