UTICA, NY – September 23, 2024
At approximately 9:00 PM, Utica Police units responded to a shots fired incident at 1400 Genesee Street. While en route, officers learned that a bullet had passed through a wall and into an adjacent apartment. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but a bullet hole was discovered in the wall, and the round was located inside the neighboring apartment.
Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and initiated interviews with individuals from both affected apartments. The residents of the apartment where the gunfire was believed to have originated granted a search waiver, allowing officers to investigate further. With the assistance of K9 Vigo, a trained firearms and explosive detection dog, police discovered a long gun and a safe containing a handgun inside the residence.
Following the investigation, 29-year-old Davante Greer, who was present in the apartment, was taken into custody and transported to the Utica Police Department. Greer was charged with the following offenses:
• Criminal Possession of a Firearm
• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree
• Outstanding Harassment Warrant
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as more details emerge.
