One Person Severely Burned in Oswego Street House Fire

Utica, NY January 30, 2025 – Utica fire crews responded to a house fire at 1316 Oswego Street around 6:22 p.m. Thursday evening. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke pouring from the rear of the home, with flames visible in the kitchen and hallway.

Outside the residence, a burn victim was found near the building with severe injuries. A Utica Fire Department ambulance was immediately dispatched, transporting the individual to Wynn Hospital for treatment of major burns.

The fire rapidly spread through the first floor and up the stairwell to the second floor. Due to water supply challenges and the fire’s intensity, a second alarm was called, bringing in two additional fire companies.

Firefighters entered through the front door with two attack lines, extinguishing the flames on the first floor before advancing to the second floor, which was fully engulfed. Crews successfully knocked down the fire after an intense battle.

The Utica Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene to investigate the cause, while crews remained on-site for several hours assisting with the investigation.

Utica Police, National Grid, and Edwards Ambulance also assisted at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
