STOCKBRIDGE, NY – State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on the morning of September 20, 2024, at approximately 7:35 a.m. in the town of Stockbridge. The crash took place at the intersection of Peterboro Road and State Route 46, where a vehicle collided with a residence.
Upon arriving at the scene, Troopers were informed by a witness that a second vehicle involved in the crash had come to rest several hundred feet away in a side yard. Two individuals were seen fleeing on foot eastbound on Peterboro Road. Troopers located and took the subjects into custody pending further investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate that DeAngelo Polk, 31, of Munnsville, NY, was driving a white 1994 Dodge Dakota pickup northbound on State Route 46 when he was struck by a red 2021 Dodge Ram driven by Evan Donda, 19, of Camden, NY. The collision occurred after Donda, who had a 16-year-old passenger, failed to stop at a stop sign on Peterboro Road and was speeding. The impact of the crash forced Polk’s vehicle into a nearby residence. Polk was ejected from the vehicle and sustained multiple injuries.
Polk was transported to Wynn Hospital in Utica, where he later died from his injuries.
During the investigation, a victim arrived at the scene and reported that the red Dodge Ram had been stolen from a residence in Camden, NY, overnight.
Donda appeared to be under the influence and failed a Standard Field Sobriety Test. He was transported to SP Oneida, where a breath test revealed a BAC of 0.09%.
Donda was charged with Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd (class D felony), Endangering the Welfare of a Child (class A misdemeanor), Driving While Intoxicated, and several Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. He was processed and arraigned in Madison County CAP Court.
State Police were assisted on the scene by the Madison County Sheriff's Office, Oneida City Police Department, Vineall Ambulance, and the Munnsville Fire Department.
