FLOYD, N.Y. – A fatal crash involving two Holland Patent School District buses left one driver dead and three students hospitalized Friday afternoon, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident occurred around 3 p.m. on March 7, 2025, on Rickmeyer Road in the Town of Floyd. Authorities say a school bus driven by Michael J. Page, 57, of Stittville, was traveling southbound when he appeared to cross into the path of another school bus driven by Jean C. Marsden, 58, of Holland Patent, traveling northbound.
The two buses collided head-on, killing Marsden at the scene. Two students on her bus were transported to Wynn Hospital by AmCare Ambulance for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Page was also taken to Wynn Hospital with a foot injury.
Three students on Page’s bus were evaluated at the scene and released to their parents. Due to their ages, authorities will not be releasing the students’ names.
Investigators believe whiteout conditions caused by wind-blown snow may have been a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
The Holland Patent Central School District has released a statement following the tragic school bus accident that occurred Friday afternoon:
"We are deeply saddened to confirm that a bus accident occurred in the Holland Patent Central School District this afternoon.
