Updated: Oct 27, 2024

UTICA, NY — An officer on patrol encountered a two-vehicle accident on Friday evening near the intersection of Taylor Avenue and Mortimer Street. The collision, which took place around 8 p.m., resulted in significant damage to both vehicles, with one car visibly smoking at the scene.

Utica Fire Department (UFD) responded quickly to assess the situation. A total of six occupants were evaluated on-scene, and one individual was transported to Wynn Hospital with unspecified injuries. The extent of the injuries remains unknown at this time, and authorities have not released further details about the cause of the crash.

Following the incident, a local resident raised concerns about the intersection, expressing worry over its safety. “It’s not safe,” he said, advocating for four-way stop signs at the corner to mirror other intersections in the neighborhood. His comments highlight a concern among residents who believe additional traffic controls could help prevent future accidents.
