New York State Police Issue Over 10,000 Tickets During Labor Day Weekend Campaign

ALBANY, NY – The New York State Police have announced that a total of 10,240 tickets were issued statewide during the 2024 Labor Day weekend enforcement campaign. The special enforcement period ran from Friday, August 30, through Monday, September 2, 2024, and was partially funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
Troopers utilized sobriety checkpoints, increased DWI patrols, and ticketed impaired and distracted drivers. A total of 232 people were arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI).
As part of the effort, law enforcement also targeted speeding and aggressive driving across the state. Here’s a breakdown of some of the tickets issued:
Speeding: 3,716
Distracted Driving: 278
Seatbelt Violations: 592
Move Over Law Violations: 209
In comparison, during last year’s Labor Day weekend campaign, the State Police issued 8,830 total tickets and arrested 157 people for DWI.
