Motorcyclist Killed in Collision

WESTERN, NY – October 20, 2024 – Oneida County Sheriff's deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a car and motorcycle at approximately 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the Town of Western.

Rick Reed, 69, of Rome, was operating a 2004 Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle traveling eastbound on Stokes-Westernville Road when the incident occurred. Carol Anderson, 74, of Long Boat Key, FL, was driving a 2024 Subaru Outback with her husband, Clifford Anderson, 82, as a passenger. The couple had stopped at the intersection of Hilltop Road and Stokes-Westernville Road, attempting to turn westbound onto Stokes-Westernville Road.

As they entered the intersection, Reed’s motorcycle struck the front end of Anderson’s vehicle, ejecting him from the motorcycle. Reed was transported by AmCare Ambulance to Rome Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

Carol and Clifford Anderson were both transported to Rome Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, the Westernville Fire Department, and North Country Towing.

The crash remains under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Unit, with assistance from the Reconstruction and Identification Units.
