MOTORCYCLIST AIRLIFTED AFTER CRASH NEAR PIXLEY FALLS STATE PARK

BOONVILLE, NY – On Friday, September 6, 2024, at approximately 9:25 AM, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious motorcycle accident on State Route 46 near Pixley Falls State Park in Boonville.



Upon arrival, deputies discovered that 77-year-old Richard Mathis, a resident of Rock Springs, Wyoming, had been traveling northbound on State Route 46 on a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle. According to the Sheriff's Office, Mathis failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, causing him to veer off the eastern shoulder and collide with a guide rail.



Mathis was ejected from the motorcycle due to the impact and sustained significant injuries. Given the severity of his condition, he was airlifted to SUNY Upstate Hospital by Mercy Flight for further treatment.



The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Assisting at the scene were the New York State Police, Boonville Fire Department, Western Fire Department, Star Ambulance, Mercy Flight, and Growers Towing.
