Man Shot in the Leg; Suspect in Custody After Confession

ROME, NY – September 29, 2024 – Multiple reports of shots-fired in the area of North Madison Street around 9:15 p.m. Sunday night prompted a response from the Rome Police Department and the Oneida County Sheriff's Office. Officers arrived to investigate the situation following initial reports of shots fired.
As authorities combed the area, additional 911 calls came in from residents along William Street, where a man was reportedly knocking on doors and bleeding everywhere. According to a report, the male appeared to be bleeding from his leg.
Around 9:25 p.m., officers located a man in his 30s in a driveway on the 500 block of North Jay Street, suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. AmCare Ambulance responded quickly to transport the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
Rome Police apprehended one individual, who confessed to the crime. However, authorities did not recover a weapon at the time of the arrest.
