Man Arrested on Rape and Child Endangerment Charges Following Hit-and-Run Incident in Mohawk

Mohawk, NY — On December 19, 2024, Heran Julia , 44, of Gloversville, NY, was arrested by State Police from Fonda, with assistance from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, on charges of Rape in the third degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

At approximately 6:15 p.m. that same day, troopers responded to a report of a hit-and-run crash on State Route 5 in Mohawk, NY, where a vehicle had collided with a guide rail. Authorities located the vehicle, which had significant damage, parked in a nearby pull-off area.

Upon approaching the vehicle, troopers discovered Julia engaging in sexual activity with a teenage juvenile under the age of 16. As a result, Julia was immediately arrested and transported to the State Police barracks in Fonda for processing.

Following his arrest, Julia was arraigned in Mohawk Town Court, where he was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash, $20,000 bond, or a $30,000 partially secured bond.
