Updated: Jan 22

Utica, NY – Fire crews were called to 2105 Genesee Street, the scene of a house fire, at 10:22 p.m. on Saturday, responding to reports of visible flames. Upon arrival, smoke and flames were seen coming from the rear kitchen area on the second floor of the residence.

Firefighters quickly entered the home and worked to extinguish the fire. The fire had spread to an adjacent room, through the ceiling, and into the walls of the second floor. Thanks to their efforts, firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading further.

A thorough search of the home confirmed that no victims were inside. However, the homeowner informed crews that her cat was still in the building. Firefighters successfully located and rescued the pet.

Two residents were displaced due to the fire, and the home sustained significant smoke and fire damage. Power and gas to the property were shut off as a precaution.
