Homicide Under Investigation in Town of Warren

WARREN, NY – October 20, 2024 – At approximately 8:00 a.m. on October 20, 2024, New York State Troopers from SP Herkimer and SP Richfield Springs responded to a report of a fatal shooting at 797 Hicks Road in the Town of Warren. Upon arrival, Troopers detained Nikolai S. Tazin, 23, of New City, NY, in connection with the incident.

According to witness accounts, Tazin allegedly used a shotgun to fatally shoot his uncle, Andrey M. Tarasenko, 50, of Congers, NY, as Tarasenko attempted to flee the property in his vehicle. Troopers discovered Tarasenko deceased at the scene, inside his vehicle.

During his initial interview, Tazin reported injuries sustained in a physical altercation that occurred prior to the shooting. He was transported to Wynn Hospital in Utica for a medical evaluation, where he was admitted for observation and released later in the day.

Tazin was then transported to SP Herkimer, where he was formally charged with one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a class “A” felony.

Search warrants were executed, and investigators from the Troop D Forensic Identification Unit processed the scene, recovering the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting. Authorities confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public, describing the incident as an isolated event.
