Jeremiah Moore, 26, arrested for alleged murder of mother

HERKIMER, NY – A man from Herkimer was arrested after allegedly stabbing a woman to death, according to the Herkimer Police.


Officers went to Stone Ridge Orchards on Protection Avenue around 11:30 p.m. after receiving a call from a third party about a possible homicide.


When the police arrived, they spoke with a man who made comments about his mother. Based on what he said, officers searched the apartment and found the man's mother dead in her bedroom.


The man, identified as 26-year-old Jeremiah Moore, went with the officers to the station for questioning without resistance. Meanwhile, other officers searched the area and spoke with tenants in the building.


Specialists from the Herkimer Police Department processed the crime scene while investigators interviewed Moore at the station. After their investigation, police concluded that Moore had stabbed his mother to death. He was then arrested, processed, and arraigned.


Moore is facing several charges, including:

- Second-degree Murder, a Class A-I Felony

- First-degree Assault, a Class B Felony

- Fourth-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, a Class A Misdemeanor

- Fourth-degree Criminal Mischief, a Class A Misdemeanor


Moore was sent to the Herkimer County Correctional Facility without bail.


The Mohawk Police Department assisted Herkimer Police at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released.
