Head-On Collision on Route 8 Leaves Multiple Injured

PARIS, N.Y. – March 8, 2025 – A head-on collision on Route 8 near Larson Road sent multiple people to the hospital Saturday evening, according to authorities.

Emergency crews responded to the crash around 5:30 p.m. after Youma Bashir, 29, lost control of her 2019 Ford Escape while traveling southbound on the snow-covered roadway. The vehicle crossed the double solid yellow line, colliding with a northbound 2022 Toyota Highlander driven by Denise Land. The impact caused the Ford Escape to overturn onto its side.

Bashir’s passengers—Haga Zagrin, 52, Sharif Bashir, 24, and Koudi Bashir, 26, all of Utica—had to be extricated from the vehicle. Land and her two passengers, a 16-year-old female front-seat passenger and Jadyn Land, 20, both of Cassville, were also extricated by members of the Cassville Fire Department.

All occupants were transported to Wynn Hospital by ambulance for treatment. Bashir remains in critical but stable condition, while Koudi Bashir is in critical condition. Haga Zagrin and Sharif Bashir are both reported to be in stable condition.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Unit, with support from the Forensic ID Unit and Reconstruction Team, is investigating the crash. Officials say wind and snow-covered roads were contributing factors, though the investigation remains ongoing.

Multiple emergency agencies assisted at the scene, including the New York State Police, Cassville Fire Department, Clayville Fire Department, Sauquoit Fire Department, Edwards Ambulance, Kunkel Ambulance, West Winfield Ambulance, and Bridgewater Ambulance.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Investigator Stanek at 315-765-2725.
