Fatal Crash on State Route 5 Claims One Life

HERKIMER, NY – In the early hours of Sunday, October 6, 2024, a head-on collision on State Route 5 in the Town of Herkimer resulted in one fatality. According to New York State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 2:38 a.m.

Charles E. Taylor, 54, of Herkimer, was driving a 2010 Dodge eastbound when he crossed into the westbound lane, colliding head-on with a 2015 Chevrolet driven by Michael J. Palmer, 35, of Frankfort.

Palmer was rushed to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he later died from his injuries. Taylor was transported to Wynn Hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.

State Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
