Fatal Crash in Westmoreland Claims Life of 22-Year-Old Driver

WESTMORELAND, NY – March 9, 2025 – A single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning on Cooper Street in Westmoreland resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man.
Deputies responded to the scene around 1:05 a.m. after Cody Tarkowski, of Westmoreland, lost control of his 2012 Nissan Titan while traveling westbound. The vehicle veered off the northern shoulder and struck a telephone pole. Tarkowski was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
His passenger, 26-year-old Gabrielle Gerace, also of Westmoreland, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Wynn Hospital by COCVAC Ambulance for evaluation.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Unit, along with the Forensic Identification Unit and Reconstruction Team, is investigating the crash.
Emergency responders from the New York State Police, Westmoreland Fire Department, and COCVAC assisted at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
