Emergency Landing on NYS Thruway: No Injuries Reported

 

Albany, NY – December 20, 2024 – A Beechcraft Travel Air twin-piston aircraft made an emergency landing on the northbound lanes of the New York State Thruway near Exit 23 in Albany at approximately 12:43 p.m. Friday.


The pilot, Logan M. Steed, 19, of Winnsboro, South Carolina, reported mechanical issues and determined he could not reach the runway at Albany International Airport. In a decisive move, he landed the aircraft safely on the Thruway.


Two passengers on board, Steven D. Strunk, 54, and April D. Strunk, 52, both of Mount Perry, Ohio, were unharmed.


The aircraft departed Fairfield County Airport in Winnsboro, South Carolina, at 8:35 a.m. and was en route to Bennington, Vermont, when mechanical problems forced the pilot to divert to Albany. The plane is registered to a flight training school based in Winnsboro.


Emergency responders, including New York State Police, quickly secured the scene, and traffic disruptions were managed effectively.


The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and State Police are investigating the incident. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the nature of the mechanical failure.


This emergency landing resulted in no injuries.
