13-Year-Old Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Syracuse Teen

SYRACUSE, NY – Syracuse Police have arrested a 13-year-old boy in connection with the death of 16-year-old Dostdar Ali Khel, who was fatally shot on the city’s north side.
Officers responded to a home on the 300 block of Herbert Street around 11:30 a.m. on October 7, following reports of a shooting. When police arrived, they found Ali Khel suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts by the Syracuse Fire Department, the teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Syracuse Police Department’s homicide unit quickly launched an investigation, conducting interviews and canvassing the area. Search warrants were executed, and evidence was processed and analyzed, leading to the identification of the 13-year-old suspect.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was located on First North Street, just 0.1 miles from the scene of the shooting, within 24 hours of the incident. He has been charged with manslaughter in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. The teenager was taken to Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center and is awaiting arraignment.
